Basalt 30mm Chopped Fiber Strand

Sold by 20kg bag

Basalt Fibre for reinforcing of concrete and cement render mixes.

The addition of basalt chopped fiber increases the toughness of hand-troweled or sprayed cement render.

Basalt Fibre Chopped Strands – are short extracts of basalt fibre applied in the reinforcement of renders and concrete. The chopped strands are produced by chopping roving.

Basalt fibre is resilient to chemicals and corrosion and it increases the ductility of concrete structures and resists micro-cracking.

  • Higher Tensile Strength 4000- 4800 Mpa
  • Elastic Modulus 90 – 110 GPa
  • Melting Temp of Basalt Fibres 1450°C
  • Density 2.6 – 2.8 g/cm³
  • Elongation at break 3.1
  • 15-20% higher Tensile Strength and Modulus when
    compared to regular E- Glass
  • Non-combustible and explosion-proof
  • Non-conductive and will not absorb or transfer
    moisture
  • Good affinity with concrete and asphalt

Basalt 30mm Chopped Fibre – 20kg bag

Basalt is a very common type of igneous rock formed by the rapid cooling of lava at the surface of the earth’s crust. The characteristics of Basalt rock vary depending on the source of lava, cooling rate, and historical exposure to the elements. High-quality fibers are made from basalt deposits with uniform chemical makeup.

The production of basalt and glass fibers are very similar. Crushed basalt rock is the only raw material required for manufacturing the fiber. It is a continuous fiber produced through igneous basalt rock melt drawing at about 1,500° C  (2,700° F).

Though the temperature required to produce fibers from basalt is higher than glass, it is reported by some researchers that production of fibers made from basalt requires less energy due to the uniformity of its heating
